[question] Buying a Gibson Les Paul

Between my wife and I, we own 4 Les Pauls, so let me give my opinion. Of course, this is all subjective, but I think I can make a good suggestion.

We own a 2014 Les Paul Traditional, which was quite expensive, and also the best in terms of sound, feel, and look. We also have a 20114 Futura (as mentioned by /u/LordCider). This guitar is surprisingly awesome. It has a Burstbucker in the bridge position and a Sidewinder (which is a stacked P-90) in the neck position which gives a noiseless single coil sound (but it is NOT as good as a genuine P-90). It has coil-taps and a 15 dB boost. It also has a Min-E-Tune system (almost the same as the 2015 G FORCE) which is nice, but also annoying. This guitar is VERY flexible, so if you can find one, grab it. Also in my LP line-up is a 2000 Les Paul Studio Gothic which is completely awesome due to its hot humbuckers and slick blacked-out look. Finally, my wife just got a 2011 50s tribute with true P-90s. This is a studio in terms of thickness, but has the classic look with wickedly awesome single coil pickups.

I have to insert my opinion of 2015's here briefly in case you're considering one of those. The removable pickguard is a great idea. The brass nut is a good idea, but after playing a few, it didn't seem to be much of a difference, but the ability to adjust the height is nice. The G FORCE tuning system is quite annoying, and seems to be worse than the Min-E-Tune system from the year before (I'm REALLY glad they stopped using these). I have extreme hatred for the wide neck, but this gets very subjective.

In terms of how the Traditional compares to the Studios, it's way beefier and warmer. However, I've never played a studio I didn't like. I've played several standards in the store, and those sound similar to the Traditional with a smaller neck, but very expensive. Overall, I highly recommend any sort of Les Paul studio since they have excellent sound quality, good feel, and are lower priced.
