Question: Dashcam in Calgary?

Mount the camera near the top of the windshield behind the black band with just the lens poking out. Tuck the wire along the edge of the headliner, down the passenger A pillar and then under your floor mat. This keeps it as hidden as possible and that's important for two reasons: the first being as you mentioned the risk of someone breaking in to steal but the second and more important reason is that if you ever get into an accident you don't want the other person to know that you have footage. Never even mention it until the police arrive. You don't know what kind of person you may run into and if they were at fault, they could try to steal the evidence.

Hardwiring is not necessary imo. That's generally only if you want the camera to be rolling when the vehicle is parked as the majority of vehicles cut power to the 12V socket when the ignition is off. I leave my camera in at all times but it's not rolling when parked. The main purpose of the dash cam is to protect yourself from liability. This is a non issue when parked and catching things like malicious damage is tricky because unless the G sensor is activated it won't save the footage and if you are parked more than a few hours it's likely going to loop record over it. You also risk running down your battery if you don't drive the car everyday.
