[QUESTION] I have a lot of shame around not having persisted in learning guitar years ago - can I shake that off and learn to make music?

Up to you. If you're depressed you might want to sort that out somehow, maybe the guitar will help you I don't know your situation in life. I was really depressed at 20-21, but I overcame it and have never felt that depressed since but I didn't do it with guitar, but by other means. I started a good career about 1.5 years ago (I'm 25 now) and I literally just got bored since I had no homework anymore so I started playing the guitar constantly after work and on my days off. I usually study theory while at work and its been fun putting a lot of time into it. I only tried playing guitar a bit when I was like 15 but never even tried to take it serious because I had no encouragement, my parents just let me lay around and play video games all the time which I don't play them much at all anymore.

Don't know if this helps you at all.
