[Question] Is it normal for your fingers to become worthless as soon as you hit "record"? Any pointers?

I always understood it with playing an instrument if you're not that practiced... but recently I've started doing spoken voiceover work. I can converse with the best of them, give presentations in front of hundreds, be on the phone all day leading meetings with not a stutter or stumble on any words.

When I hit record and start reading a prepared script, I all of a sudden have a terrible speech impediment and can't get through just saying the most simple sentences. I start sounding like a drunk toddler with braces. Going through all the takes to edit out the bad stuff, I start physically getting a headache just listening to the frustration and restarts.

It gets to the point where I'm recording 40 seconds of speaking it can take me up to 15 minutes of just trying non-stop to get enough to be able to splice together one good take.

The struggle is real.
