Question on how Pakistanis would like to see US-Pakistan relations progress

Pakistanis have been feeling tired with their relationship with the US. it's no secret how these relationships work. US sells arms and gives social aid in order to secure its interests in the region and gets that nation to act for US interests in the region. Pakistan played that role quiet well. With US and Saudi's help we took care of the Soviets. We paved the way for a new era in US/Chinese relations. We kept Afghanistan from falling into the pro-Russian Northern Alliance. US strung us along, withheld sales of arms, and even the jets that were sold to Pakistan by the US weren't delivered, instead Pakistan was forced to pay hanger fees. From where we come from US hasn't been a good ally to us. We even went as far as setting a meeting with Taliban and the US. Well US decided to bomb the guy they were supposed to engage in peace talks with. At another effort, talks were scheduled and US decided to leak the information about Mullah Umar's death which got the talks canceled. NATO forces attacked Pakistan's military posts back in 2011 and dubbed it an accident. All the while using Pakistan's infrastructure and bases for their operations in Afghanistan.

US is miserably failing in Afghanistan and it chooses to blame Pakistan for giving sanctuary to terrorists. Last I checked US can drone the crap out of weddings, funerals and any other terrorist threat on Pakistani soil. Yet, it can't attack these terroists it keeps talking about. Drone attacks have decreased following Pakistan's military operations in the tribal areas. We weed out the terrorists and US and Afghan forces don't catch them when they get into Afghanistan. Pakistan has been for almost 2 decades trying to fence the border and Afghan forces attack our workers and soliders. If US wanted these terrorists to stop crossing over this very long and unmanned pours border, they could have supported Pakistan in building that fence and they should have used their influence with Afghan government to get this thing going. Pakistan is tired of losing its own people to US's war on terror witch has spilled over in our country and now we have a faction of Taliban who regularly bomb us. Since 2001 Pakistan has lost upwards of 80k civilians and armed personale. That's no small number. These terrorists have bases and security in Afghanistan. Afghan intelligence has been proven to support these terrorists. US gave space to India in Afghanistan, that's a big no no for Pakistan. When US eventually leaves Afghanistan, Pakistan does not want to be left with India on 2 sides of our border. US can't expect Pakistan to over look it's own security and geopolitical interests just so US gets to go home victorious.

Afghan Taliban aren't paid terrorists, they are what you would refer to as Afghan nationalists. They control 40% of Afghanistan and enjoy support in over 60% of it. US is going to have to negotiate with them which is what Pakistan had been trying to do prior to the 2001 invasion.

Pakistan is succeeding against the Taliban faction(TTP). We weed them out they run over to their sanctuaries back in Afghanistan. Yet, it is Pakistan who gets told that it provides sanctuaries to terrorists.

General Patreus when he initially took on a leading role in this neighborhood also believed Pakistan was providing sanctuaries, but after 8-10 years. His tone has changed and he now believes Pakistan is simply not involved, mind you during this time he became the head of CIA as well.

In particular US claims Pakistan provides sanctuary to the Haqani network. Which is believed to be less than a 1k strong. You can't tell me 1k men are the reason for US's failures in Afghanistan. If US knows where those guys are, they can drone them. Once the border fence is complete the hope is no longer will any terrorists find be able to cross the border from either side.

I noticed the immigration topic has been hot in The US more so in recent years. Try hosting 5 million Afghan refugees for over 30 years.

The space US has given India in Afghanistan is costing Pakistan as India uses that space as a launching pad to support other separatist factions who ruthlessly bomb Pakistanis. Israel is now using some rebel groups to carry out espionage and terrorism in Iran. Pakistan's hands are full ATM. Especially considering there has been little quid pro quo. US is propping up Pakistan's hostile neighbor, India in order to counter China's influence. It essentially made India an NSG member with out ever having to sign the NPT. Instead of PakistanMs ally US, it was China who supported Pakistan's entry in to NSG. US only needs Pakistan to get a handle of thing in Afghanistan. The kicker is Afghanistan's government is not very friendly towards Pakistan. So US asking Pakistan to essentially sabotage its own future by helping US more than the help we are already providing. We have plenty of our own problems to deal with so holding hands is out of question. Once Pakistan serves its purpose US won't need Pakistan and Pakistan would have created a whole lot of enemies after US leaves.

Pakistan is still willing to help out, but on mutual respect and consideration of Pakistan's regional economic and strategic interests.

In conclusion, Pakistani people are tired of US's friendship. Whatever money we were being paid as social aid and military reimbursements, has gone dry. All it did was make Make the politicians richer and instead of building infrastructure and institutions they got used to that money. Only a fraction of that money now makes it to Pakistan, essentially US weened Pakistan off the aid and Pakistan doesn't need it anymore.

I personally hope that if US wants a victor in Afghanistan it should decide to work with Pakistan instead of sling crap at it. Be congnizant of Pakistan's interests in the region. Do as Pakistan says and US will be coming home victorious. US has tried its approach for 16 years now, its time to listen to the people who have had a 70 year long relationship with it. Everyone will get what they want out of it, Pakistan will not be exposed to bigger threats after US leaves and US will get to leave Afghanistan with its interests secured.
