This question has probably been asked 1000 times, but I’m in the Army, hoping to transition to civilian aviation maintenance.

I was avionics in the Air Force. Got out and went civilian for a year. Then finally got a good government contractor job. With my security clearance and experience I got picked up for a Dual status reserve job. That’s where you are a civilian during the week. And a reservist one weekend a month. You maintain the aircraft when the traditional Reservist aren’t there.

Work there till I got my 20 years for a Reserve retirement. Then transferred over to a straight civilian maintenance job.

Retired from that job last year. And started collecting my Docial security a couple months ago. With my monthly TSP withdrawal I make 100k a year.

I worked at a Flight School and FBO when I first got out. They were good jobs. But they don’t pay enough. With minimal benefits.

I know a lot of guys go airlines. And they make good money. But it’s a lot of time and MRO work to get in.
