Questions about integrating a young husky into a cat household

I personally feel that a lot of subs on reddit are very “dog bad, cat good”, so it’s not surprising you got those kinds of responses. I’m sorry :( I can see that you are very excited about getting your dream pup, as you should be! When my boyfriend moved in with his cat, we endlessly googled ways to integrate her into my 2 dog household. Some of the things I remember are:

-Feeding the animals on either side of a closed door at first, so they associate each other with food (which, of course, is always good), then feed them on either side of a baby gate so they can see each other while they eat, until you no longer need a barrier.

-Keeping the pup on leash while you let the cats come as close as they want, so that you still have control. This will also keep the pup calmer so hopefully she’ll learn that she needs to be calm around the cats, especially once you start letting her off leash when she stays calm.

-The “leave it” command can work for all sorts of things, including leaving the cats alone. Definitely teach something along those lines as it can also save your dog from getting into things they shouldn’t.

You should always make sure the cats have somewhere to escape to, and like someone else said, separate the animals when you’re not home to supervise.

Unfortunately we were not able to integrate our animals because my boyfriend’s cat wanted nothing to do with it, so she just has her own room now that the dogs are not allowed in. It works for us, but I think you can definitely make it work with lots of patience. Good luck OP! I am excited for you!
