Questions for materialists here

Yes and no.

I consider buying some things to be an extension of my interests and certain aspects of my personality -- For example, buying a poster of a band or TV show you like.

Do I seek to build a hoard of material goods without reason, though? Not really.

My definition of true materialism can be defined as not being aware of it -- just accumulating goods without conscious check or logic, or being consumed by the very process of it whereby it affects negatively one's emotional wellbeing.

However, in a more general sense, I think materialism is just a social construct, it's something that only exists within the parameters of society.

It could be argued from an evolutionary perspective that material goods hoarding could boost survival chances and thus, can't always be judged negatively.

It's more complex when you really dig into it and why someone owns or wants material items.

Just my thoughts anyway :)
