I have been seeing some unexpected behavior with Dash and I want to see if other people are having similar difficulties. When I complete a Dash action, my client seem eager to name-lock on something else. This is less useful for ranged attackers.

Context: I am playing a Elemental Hit Deadeye Ranger. I have my attack (EH) assign to left-click. (Any time I am using Dash, it is because I am interested in GFTO, not attacking. I expect this to be the case for most ranged attackers.) Below, I de-construct the two scenarios I am seeing:

Scenario A:

  • I begin a Dash with my mouse pointer not over a mob.
  • I complete Dash and I am left click-and-holding to continue running, having carefully started my left click-and-hold not over a mob.
  • My mouse pointer collides with a mob on the screen as I am threading through crowds of mobs.
  • I immediately name-lock on the collided mob, causing me to stop moving and attack when I want to be running.

Scenario A might be useful for all these changes we have been seeing to melee but it is not very useful for ranged attackers (or ranged spellcasters, if this works the same for them).

Scenario B:

  • I begin a Dash with my mouse pointer over a mob. (The mouse placement is unintentional.)
  • I am Dashing and I am left click-and-holding to continue running when Dash completes, being careful not to start my left click-and-hold on a mob.
  • When Dash completes, I immediately name-lock on the mouse-over mob from when I Dashed, causing me to stop moving and attack when I want to be running.

My assumption is that Dash name-locking from the start is causing the issue with Scenario B by transferring the name-lock to EH, like any other situation where you use a new single-target skill before ending the click-and-hold of another skill. Dash does not need that feature so this could be fixed, I feel.

My questions for other players would be:

  • Is anyone else seeing this?
  • Is this behavior intentional and if so, why?
  • Am I the only one who is having problems with this bug/feature interfering with actual gameplay?
