I work a lot now and I love it. On my own art projects, on achieving my goals. I also read and exercise quite a bit. Trying to learn how to draw (and eventually paint too). Also considering trying sculpting.

Does gaming do something bad to our brains that book don’t?

It just might. Read The Shallows if you have not already. There are some benefits from video games, particularly strenghtening of visual and spatial skills. But they come at an expense of more deep modes of thinking, critical and analytical thinking and mindful knowledge acquisition.

Why is reading an acceptable pastime?

It's fun. It will also lead to an improvement in cognition and thinking and rhetorical power. Memory is a major element in thinking, and it matters a lot what you remember.
