Yes, they would be able to build new roads to compete. Part of that competition would be finding new routes and striking deals with private land owners or local businesses and more.

The Government is a monopoly. In private enterprise in a truly open and free market-- anybody, anywhere, at any time can create something better than you, offer better services, create a disruptive technology and put you our of business.

Monopolies only exist with Government help.

Because Government gives itself a monopoly on Money, Law, and Law Enforcement.

Without Government giant corporations have nobody to hide behind, appeal to, or buy legislation from that will crush their competition for them ans make it impossible for others to compete in the future.
