/r/BeaconAcademy: The RWBY roleplay subreddit experience that you've been missing (Beta Test: Only 7 people will be approved!)

Hello.

I'm a long-time lurker and I made this account JUST to apply to this thing, so please excuse my low post count. I've never done forum based role-play, coming from a tabletop background myself, but it sounds really fun.

Character Name: Amber Sapphire

Character Gender: Female

Character Age: 17

Character Partner and Team: None at the moment. Probably pair up with someone else in the sub. In my canon she's paired with a Pyrrha knockoff because my roleplay group isn't that creative, heh.

Character Aura Type and Appearance: Aura...type? I don't understand the question. As far as appearance, her aura flashes in purple concentric circles when deflecting attacks. It also flares and flashes in bright purple as she makes use of her unique abilities.

Character Semblance: Direct Aua Manipulation. Amber has the unique and unsettling ability to directly influence another's aura through the use of her own. On the offence, she can tear down enemy defences by directly draining their aura, block and counter the use of enemy semblance (much like counterspelling in other table-top RPGs), and suppress an enemy's ability to use aura and semblance for a short time.

On the defensive, she can bolster an ally's aura against incoming attack by channeling energy into their aura. When she becomes familiar with an ally enough to understand the mechanism of their semblance, she can bolster that as well by lending some of her own power. Out of combat, she can channel her energy into a wounded ally's aura to speed and assist in their recovery.

Performing any of these actions is draining on Amber, and her stamina can be sapped quite quickly through prolonged use. Also, these capabilities are merely nascent in the young and inexperienced Amber.

The boil it all down, she can reach out and touch an individual's aura, twisting it for better or worse.

Character Weapon: Amber has two 'laser bracers' strapped to her forearms, named "Truth and Reconciliation." These bracers contain complex dust-based mechanisms that focus and amplify her semblance into energy beams. The bracers draw their energy from dust sewn into her dress. While the beams themselves are powerful weapons in their own right, Amber usually uses them as carriers for her abilities. Therefore, if she wishes to strip away an enemy's aura, she would fire a beam at them from her bracer. If the beam connects with it's target, the effect is applied. The same goes for beneficial effects she wishes to apply to her teammates. If she wants to bolster an enemy's failing aura, she must tag them with an otherwise harmless laser.

To achieve these effects, Amber performs a sort of pseudo martial art similar to Tai Chi (or 'bending' if you're an Avatar, The Last Airbender fan) designed to focus the mind, the body, and the aura. The movements of this martial art start out broad, sweeping, graceful, and peaceful to gather the user's aura; then end of with a sharp, precise and violent movement of some kind to propel the energy outward. Her bracers, Truth and Reconciliation, capture, focus, and amplify this energy into the beam that carry her semblance to it's target.

Amber's dress is laced with energy dust. She draws on its power to create her various effects. If separated from this source of dust, Amber lacks the energy required to generate any of her effects. Without Truth and Reconciliation, Amber lacks the ability to project her semblance over distance, and suffer a severe lack of effectiveness.

Character Appearance: Start with this picture. Amber is 5'5" tall (~170cm). She has a skinny yet healthy build, but is not particularly strong or athletic. The skirt of her dress hangs loosely down to mid-calf. It is not a combat skirt (Amber finds them too stiff and uncomfortable) but she is smart enough to wear a pair of bicycle shorts under her dress if she expects combat. As one can see from the picture that inspired this character, her dress is a bark blue with loose sleeves (to better fit her bracers). It is laced with dust that glows and flashes when she attacks, defends, or otherwise uses her abilities.

Character Personality: Amber is always smiling. She carries a sunny, friendly, positive, and nurturing personality. She always wants to take the best care of her teammates, and tries her hardest to ensure their happiness and health, but lacks the raw force of personality required for be a true "team mom". Therefore, she generally falls comfortably into the position of "team nurse" or "team sister." She is gentle, quiet, and pacifistic.

Amber walks with high energy, occasionally bouncing or skipping instead of standard walking. She is also a hugger, and will embrace people she just met in lieu of a more normal handshake, if she thinks they'd be accepting of such a gesture. She wouldn't try to hug a teacher for example, but a fellow student is fair game.

She is not a morning person, at all. Getting Amber up and moving in the morning is generally a team effort. However, once she's properly spun up, her natural energy takes over and she happily bounces through the day.

Amber tends to go through boyfriends at an alarming rate.

Character Background: Amber grew up in a loving and somewhat boringly normal family in the kingdom of Atlas. She never had aspirations to become a huntress, or indeed a warrior of any description. That changed when her abilities came to light around her 16th birthday. That is a story for another time, but suffice it to say she drew the attention of the academy, who found her abilities truly fascinating. She was offered a position at the academy to be trained as a huntress, despite her lack of formal combat training. Initially, she wasn't thrilled about the idea. However, after pressure from her friends, her kingdom, and her family, (also a story for another time) she caved in and gave herself over to the academy.

While she was being rushed through a greatly accelerated combat training program, She found herself disliking Atlas Academy's military training style. She had been in training long enough to decide that becoming a huntress was the right move, but decided she'd do it on her own terms, not her kingdom's. So, she sent a communique to the Headmaster of Beacon Academy, telling him in her own words what her abilities were and implored him to allow her to study at his school, so she could learn how come to her fullest potential on her own terms instead of the institutional training of Atlas Academy.

The story of her acceptance will also have to wait for another time, but in the end Ozpin accepted her application. Though Atlas (and Ironwood, who had been closely monitoring her progress) was quite miffed at her decision, there was nothing they could do about it. Once a student has made a decision, and one they have been accepted, they are free to study wherever they wish.

Character Angst: Amber is not a fighter. Though she is generally fit and healthy, she lacks the trained athleticism of your more standard combat school graduates. She is well aware of this and worries constantly under her smile that she wont make the cut, and may wind up dead, or worse get a teammate killed. She hates how much she has to depend on her teammates her her survival and wishes she could be of more use. She runs herself ragged trying to train up to their level, and she often pushes too hard in the process. In team sparring matches she's fought herself into unconsciousness by overusing her abilities and completely draining herself of energy. She just wants it that badly.

Also, after learning the nature of aura, she is deeply worried that when she attacks someone else's aura, she's actually attacking and damaging their very soul. This bring her to question the nature of her powers, and wonder what it means for her as a person. Her power is the only thing that she has going for her in terms of being a warrior, and she wants to help people, but what if what she's doing is deeply harmful? Such questions continue to be unanswered.

So...yeah. Sorry for wall of text, but that's pretty much what it means to be Amber. I guess if you have any questions feel free to shoot 'em at me.

And yes, she is absolutely a Mary Sue. A lot of inspiration for her personality is derived from my own, and amplified to be larger than life. I know that generally considered a bit no no in the fanfic business, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's a problem here.

Also this is literally my first ever reddit post, so please be gentle. I'm delicate. ;_;
