It's the /r/civbattleroyale Vexillology Competition! | Week 2 - North America - Info Thread

Well, since you used one of my flags as an example, let's start with one based on that one:

Flag of Chilean Cincinatti

Short Description: This flag is based on the flag of the Unified Chilean Directorate. The central star of the upper left quadrant is the traditional symbol of Chile's military, while the blue, white, and red rays represent the projection of power through Chile's naval, air, and land forces respectively. The palm tree, ubiquitous in the Cincinatti region, is a traditional symbol of the region.

Flag of Vinland (Icelandic North Occidentia)

Short Description: In keeping with the Icelandic policy of assimilation, various territories do not have their own flags. Instead, the Imperial flag is used, but when circumstances require, a modified Imperial flag including an initial standing for the specific territory may be flown. The 'V' in the upper left quadrant thus represents Vinland, the Icelandic name for its holdings in North Occidentia. The central motif, the Unbreakable Knot, is a traditional symbol of strength, and the official emblem of the empire. The barred cross represents the armed forces, while the four quadrants represent the four main Icelandic territories (Vinland, Groenland, the Home Islands, and Icelandic Europe). The purple and green are the colours of Iceland's Imperial House.

Flag of Niitsitapi (the Blackfoot Confederacy)

This flag uses traditional feather motifs to symbolize a connection with the Blackfoot people's long history. The buffalo emblem is the symbol of national unity, since all founding tribes of the Confederacy used buffalo as their main food source in prehistory; it also symbolizes the indomitable spirit of the Confederacy. The script is the word Niitsitapi, the word for the nation in its own tongue, written in the Blackfoot syllabic alphabet [to break from the canon for a moment: this is true IRL, I looked it up and cobbled together a cool-looking font, but it is actually Niitsitapi in syllabic]. The central star is the symbol of the military, which is held in high esteem in Blackfoot society. The blue and tan are the traditional colours of Blackfoot chiefs, which today represent governance. This flag has been in use for hundreds of years.

Flag of ARR-Occupied Floridar

More correctly, this is the banner which the 19th, 99th, 101st, 153rd, 167th, 181st, and 206th Autonomous Revolutionary Regiments are entitled to fly, due to their being based out of ports on the Floridar Peninsula. Each specific regimental flag would, of course, also bear their regiment number as well as any additional symbols associated with the regiment. The alligator skeleton symbolizes Floridar, where hunting alligators with traditional cutlasses is a favourite sport. The skull and crossed-guns motif is, of course, the common symbol of the Autonomous Revolutionary Regiments. This flag has been in use since the Buccaneer Empire was dissolved and reformed into the ARR.

Flag of Inuit-Nunaat

After the coup that deposed the previous ruling caste and brought the Autocratic Party into power, a new flag was designed to reflect the change of direction for Inuit society. The crossed double-ended harpoons are the symbol of the Party, while the crossed automatic rifles are the symbol of the Inuit Armed Forces. The Inuksuk is of course the national symbol of the Inuit. On the left field, the black stands for the deaths of the enemies of the Inuit, and the scorched terrain left in the wake of Inuit forces. On the right field, the blue signifies the endless skies of the northern summer. The white half of the Inuksuk stands for purity of purpose and the snows of the Inuit home territories, while the black stands for the unbreakable stone of which the Inuksuk is constructed.

Flag of the People's Republic of Texas

Symbolizing industry and agriculture, the toothed sickle surrounds a central star, symbolizing the People's Republic. The five smaller stars represent Loyalty, Discipline, Righteousness, Strength, and Order. Though Texas has been reduced to a rump state on the Buccaneer Gulf, the ruling Party has maintained power and continues to use this flag.

Flag of the United Mexican Republic

After the disastrous war with Texas, generals seized power from the Emperor and proclaimed the United 'Republic'. This flag has been in use since. The red and green symbolize blood and life, respectively, while the white symbolizes purity. The eagle eating the snake is a traditional symbol of Mexico, referencing an ancient legend which told of a prophecy, instructing the founding tribe of Mexico, wandering in the desert, that when they saw an eagle eating a snake, they should conquer the nearest city, slaughter the inhabitants and make it their new home. The white star symbolizes the Armed Forces, pillar of the republic.

Flag of the Canadian Empire

Canada has enjoyed a long period of political stability under the joint stewardship of the House of Pearson and the Imperial Forces, and this flag has been in use for centuries. The red is the national colour of Canada, while the gold is the colour of the Empire. The triple maple motif is the symbol of Canada, and the laurel surrounding it is the symbol of the Imperial Forces. The crown-and-scepter are the symbols of the House of Pearson.
