/r/Fantasy General Discussion April 03, 2015

Greetings everyone. I did NOT do any of the really wonky things I had planned on April 1st.

A week ago I finished part 3 of Dead Weight. It wound up being over twice as long as I expected, so I think might break it up into part 3 & 4. Haven't completely decided yet.

Started on Halloween Jack and the Red Emperor. Found a bit of California history that changed a big portion of story for the better.

Looking forward to seeing Furious 7. In a debate over the merit of the Fast and Furious franchise, I've come to realize these movies are fantasy. The heroes are technomancers who use vehicles (and occasionally other technology) to bend the laws of physics in such ways that they don't call over attention to what they are doing.

Been fiddling around with this Patreon thing. It's quite interesting.

My baby girl has been taking hip hop classes with her dance teacher since ballet classes got take over by a terrible teacher. Miss Megan is having a great time, and I'm happy to have finally have a child interested in dance. I can't wait until she's tall enough for me to start teaching her swing and ballroom.

Been reading more Malazan again. In the re-read, reveling in the brilliance of Mr Erikson. He seeds so many important details into the narrative that sometimes I'm sitting on the couch, staring at the page in awe.

Thinking of trying to tackle Powder Mage again. I tried Promise of Blood but couldn't get past a couple of things in the writing style. Not bad things, but rather just things that I'm not fond of in prose. I am however, interested to see how his writing progresses/developed over the course of the trilogy.

Still bumming out that my favorite airsoft field is closing, and that even though I'm in town for the weekend, I'm probably not going to get to go shoot teenagers because of the holiday. sigh

So, what's everyone else up to?
