Its /r/hockey Mock Trade Deadline day!

Alright, not that most people will care, but this would be my analysis of what's gone down today with the mock trades:

Timonen/Rinaldo trade: 2/10 Don't really like it. We're giving Timonen away to a dud of a team that may not make the playoffs, and all we're getting back is a 6th round pick. He deserves to either go to a legitimate contender, or stay in Philly--unless the offer is too high to turn down (2nd round pick or greater). Which is unlikely. Rinaldo, I really do love him as a Flyer, but Ryan White has completely outclassed him. I don't care if we trade him or let his contract expire, but also not a fan of moving him for the sake of it.

Lecavalier/Akeson trade: 8/10 Don't know a hell of a lot about Berglund. He's a center on a one-year deal, former first-round pick, 26 years old (do we have RFA control?) for cap dump and Akeson. I think Akeson is a pretty good player, but is highly expendable and if he's the cost to rid ourselves of Lecavalier, then great. We're getting a solid young player and a potential 3rd round pick for a player we'd give away for free. He may actually waive his NMC for the Blues too, so all around good deal.

Kovalchuk trade: 10/10 Lol. Devils would never do this, and it's hilarious to be quite honest. Mostly giving it a high rating for luls, but on the off chance Kovalchuk would actually come back and sign with Philly it'd be a steal. Small risk (4th round pick) for high reward, great move.

Brayden Schenn trade: 2/10 I love Matt Moulson. He isn't a great player in terms of pure skill, but he has a nose for the net and is a proven finisher. That said, Schenn for Moulson essentially even up is a garbage trade. Schenn is a legitimate 2C for some teams wanting to rebuild with 1C potential. He's still young, and has been playing great lately. I'd rather have kept him on the 1LW than replaced him with Moulson.

Ray Emery trade: 6/10 Pretty neutral on this. Ramo is relatively young, with decent potential. The 50% buyback is what made this plausible. Emery has been either killer or a dude for the Flyers, but I like him or Zepp as a backup. I'm not a fan of bringing Ramo in where he and Mason compete for a job and one of them ends up in the doghouse. I think Mase has been excellent for us, and I'm not sure a 1A and 1B goalie tandem benefits us.

Andrew MacDonald trade: 9/10 Amazing trade. MacDonald has not been good for us and we were buried under a lengthy, poor value contract. We essentially swap MacDonald for Briere even up. Briere can finish out his contract (I think this is the last year on it, but even if it isn't, with other cap-dumps made it's not a big deal) and then retire as a Flyer if he so chooses. We move our biggest cap anchor for a beloved, fan favorite to get his swan song. Wonderful.

Mark Streit trade: 4/10 I am not positive on this, but I believe Williams contract expires this year. The 50% buyback is nice, but ultimately does not effect the Flyers going forward with Williams as a rental in a non-contending year. Essentially the trade becomes Mark Streit for Brayden McNabb and a 3rd. I think the 3rd won't be great value, as the Kings are usually a middle-top tier team. The next few drafts are pretty thin as well compared to normal. Our other prospects are much better right now, and I fear he won't have room to move up. I personally would rather have Streit anchor the blueline and mentor the young guys as they come up. His contract isn't bad for how he's been playing both 5v5 and on the 1PP, and it will expire around the time we need it to. Not a game changer, but we need to have somebody left until the propsects are ready.

Miscellaneous signings and moves

Tim Thomas: no need. He's pretty washed up and I would rather have Ramo playing than him. Honestly, maybe even Zepp too. I do think he'd be an upgrade over Emery, but moot point since he's gone.

Thomas Raffl: Sure, bring him in to the Phantoms on a 1-year 2-way deal and see what he's made of. I don't mind, neither helps nor hurts.

Simon Gagne: Wonderful. Fitting, and hopefully there'd be a job for him in the organization somewhere--I don't know what bad blood there may be if any though.

Jonathan Cheechoo: Doesn't really matter but it's pretty stupid and there's no need to do it just for the sake of it. Why would he leave the KHL (I think he's there?) to play on the Phantoms.

RJ Umberger: Honestly neutral right now. He's been average out there on the third line for us, and with Lecavalier and AMac gone... why not just keep him until his contract expires? We can always buy him out in the offseason if a UFA comes along or the money is needed.

I would undo the Timonen trade assuming no contenders wanted him, and I would undo the Streit trade. Definitely would undo the Schenn trade. The rest is fine/whatever/goes away in 1-year. It would leave us with:

Schenn - Giroux - Voracek Read - Couturier - Simmonds Raffl - Berglund - Bellemare

Vandevelde - White - Briere

Streit - Schultz Timonen - Coburn

Schenn - Del Zotto

Mason/Ramo

x Grossmann x Colaiacovo

x Rinaldo

If somebody goes out for an extended period of time, we could call up somebody depending (Laughton or any number of depth forwards we have). Rinaldo would ride the pine and only play select games, unless he plays selfishly/stupidly in those games, in which case keep him benched.
