Queenstown as in Tasmania?

If Tasmania, we went in June a couple of years ago, so a little earlier, but there was snow.

We hired a four wheel drive as we were exploring the western part of Tasmania. It is spectacular and we had an amazing time, but I certainly wouldn't have done it without either a four wheel drive or all wheel drive.

I can't recall if it is heading into Queenstown, or heading from Queenstown to Strahan, but there are about 100 tight twists in the road. Make sure you're doing the drive refreshed and take breaks if you need to. There is absolutely nothing out there except amazing landscapes, so take a thermos of coffee or tea and some food if you want to make a stop to refresh.

Also, we were told by locals to avoid driving first thing in the morning before the black ice had melted, also be careful heading from sunlight into shaded parts of the road, as the black ice may persist.

Cradle Mountain is incredibly special and there is more to see than Queenstown in my opinion. Go on the tour offered by the Information Centre. We were the only people to get taken on a tour of the lake are and Waldheim Cabins. It was an amazing experience, the tour leader was a parks member, so knew a lot about the plants and history.
