/r/nosleep is looking for new moderators! Apply within!

What timezone/country are you in? United States, but I move around from timezone to timezone every once in a while. What times do you reasonably think you'll be be available to mod nosleep and how much time can you dedicate to it? Definitely at night, whenever that happens to be. Do you mod any other subreddits or forums on the internet? If so, which ones and for how long have you modded them? I don't. This is completely new to me. Do you have any experience with coding, CSS, and/or automoderator configuration? I've taken a couple of computer science courses, but no, I haven't done any CSS. Should mods let the upvotes decide? No. A thousand wrongs do not make a right. People know what they signed up for when they subscribed to this subreddit, they shouldn't complain when the rules are enforced. Do you read /r/nosleep regularly? All the time. A post is on the front page and violates a rule, what do you do? The fact that a lot of people like the post doesn't change the fact that it violates a rule. Rules exist for a reason, and it's the OP's fault for choosing to violate them. Remove it. A user who is a respected and regular writer on the subreddit has become hostile with another user who does not have a comment history in nosleep. How do you respond? That depends on the degree of hostility. We can't take action on every minor disagreement that happens on the subreddit. However, if it's starting a major conflict that stirs up the metaphorical pot, definitely take action. I'd talk to the two and give them a warning, and remove the offending comments. What kinds of things make you irrationally angry?
People taking things personally on the internet. How do you feel about authors posting their social media links at the end of stories? Authors? These are people relating their stories to us. I doubt someone who went through something tragic would feel the need to post social media links at the end of their stories. The narrator dies in the nosleep story and continues it from beyond the grave. Do you remove the post? No. I don't discriminate. What is “torture porn,” and does it belong in nosleep? Gore and violence for their own sake. No. A user is mad about a story removal, and personally attacks you in modmail. What do you do? What are the essential elements of a story? Why do we have the “Everything is true here, even if it’s not” rule, and what does it mean? To prevent users from spoiling the immersion element of the subreddit. It means don't go around debunking people's stories. If you don't like it, just downvote and go away. Is a story about Slenderman appropriate for nosleep? If it's original and not a repost, sure. A user's submission is 498 words. NoSleep's minimal word count currently stands at 500. Do you remove the post? Yes. They could've easily squeezed two words in somewhere. What does “believable within reason” mean, for nosleep’s purposes? Logically consistent, on a very minimal level. A popular post gets to the front page. It's obviously fiction, but it abides by all the rules. A new post is submitted by a different user that is very similar to the front page popular post, but the user insists it's a true story. What do you do? Well, user #2 is being in character. Unless user #2 is plagiarizing or breaking a rule, do nothing. A popular and regular writer on nosleep has released a book and wants to promote it to his fans. What do you advise him to do? Make a post in OOC, instead of the main subreddit. Is nosleep real? Of course. What does "realistic fiction" mean? Do you love horror? If so, what is your favorite type? Absolutely. Psychological. How many times do you think a user should be allowed to have posts and/or comments removed before they are banned from the subreddit? Would you give them a warning before banning them? Only a couple times. And of course, I'd give them fair warning. A story is removed for being non-horror by another moderator. The author sends a modmail asking why their story was removed, which prompts you to read the story and discover that you do not agree with the removal reason. What do you do? Consult the mod that took it down, and see if I can reach an agreement with them. If not, contact other mods, and see if they can weigh in. What are some challenges you think nosleep faces as a default sub with >6 million subscribers and hundreds of posts each day? Sheer size. It's very difficult to moderate a subreddit with that many people all over the world. Why do you feel you'd be a good fit for nosleep? I'm not much of a writer, to be honest. I've written a few stories here, but nobody's really liked them. The least I could do to contribute to the community would be to help out the moderators. I'm sure they have their hands full.
