being funny is to cause amusement.

how does one make people laugh? we can learn a lot from standup comics, or comedy performers.

there are elements of timing, wit, context, facial expressions/mannerisms, physicality, storytelling (these are just off the top of my head).

putting all this together requires an intelligence. when someone is funny, how are they doing it? there is probably a background process running ... an algorithm, that evaluates what is funny and what is not. based on situation, the company, the tone, etc.

so back to my earlier statement. you can be intelligent without being funny. see: all our technocrats.

but if you want to be funny, you need an intelligence. even if you are a physical comic, (see:Mr Bean) people laugh at the character, but laugh with Rowan Atkinson. if you laugh AT Rowan Atkinson, that's not being funny, that's just being humiliated.

say you are hanging out with friends, if you can make witty statements that call back/reference an earlier situation, you're doing some processing there. what happened before, what is happening now, i put them together and i can make something funny. that's an intelligence.
