/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 19, Part 1 (Thread #142)

There has been some reporting that suggests Putin might conceivably hit convoys of war material on the way to Ukraine but not yet out of NATO states.

What’s the endgame for Putin if he’s considering this? Does he think NATO and NATO-adjacent allies (like S. Korea, Australia, Japan, etc.) will accept a Russian incursion there? Does he have even an outside chance at holding back NATO+ conventionally?

To me, it feels like that would be just dumb. I mean, none of his and his army’s decisions have seemed really savvy in their invasion of Ukraine. But to draw NATO+ actively into the conflict makes little sense to me. I don’t know… not a military historian or strategist. Seems like if he did that the only card he’d have to play is Global Thermonuclear Annihilation and we know who wins that game.
