I mean you're conflating 2 completely separate issues. I know you're doing to generalize the "left" pov. Social workers should absolutely be a part of the approach to de escalation. Of course they wouldn't be appropriate to every situation just the the police and use of force isn't appropriate to every situation but use of force seems to be just about the only tool in the toolbox gor most police forces. I also think that the police should be paid more, have a higher standard for entry, have more training, have constant and mandatory mental health counseling and screening (being such a stressful job and being given so much authority) and be held accountable and have over sight from to outside entities. The problems that that the police are used to address can't be addressed with a one dimensional use of force approach
