Reminder: re: the humiliation of the USSR by the West. Western countries flooded the collapsing USSR with billions of dollars in credit in the early 90s. In fact, I gather from Kasparov's book, that Western leaders, especially the white house, were very much invested in keeping the status quo of Gorbachev's reign.

The current situation, according to the author, can't be understood as a poor victim Russia, that has been encroached by a power mad West, but the opposite: it's a lack of firm stance; a moral equivalency and continued appeasement that has brought us here.

Perhaps something to keep in mind for the redditors when it comes to the situation in the Baltics.
