Race and Popular Fantasy Literature: Habits of Whiteness

I am always amazed by the way some Americans view whiteness...The self righteousness and arrogance is so subtle yet blatant for an outside observer. You are all about diversity this, and diversity that, yet the only thing you can never accept is the diversity of white people, especially white men...

Do this for me, go open up a map of any US state and compare it to any European country. I choose Texas. To me , that map is...soulless. What is the difference between someone from Dallam or someone from Potter? What is the difference between someone from Denton or someone from Parker?Only straight lines...Of course there are differences, but they are trivial and mostly economic.

Now do the same with any European country no matter the size. You will see meaning. Every line is there for a reason, every country tried to kill it's neighbors and take over their land.Add in 2000+ years of history and suddenly you will see just how different the US and Europe truly is.

There is a huge difference between me and a white 20 something male from any other European country. We speak a different language, we have different political views, we consume different media, we have a very different history...yet you never recognize that. In your mind ( and many on reddit and in the US) I'm just a white male, I have just the same privileges and have the same "problematic" views as any american college dude(statistically speaking)...

I mean, can't you see how insulting and dehumanizing this is? you are doing exactly the same thing you accuse others: you are trying to silence people because of their race. You are calling for diversity yet you silence my diversity. You are saying blacks, asians ,POC etc should be encouraged but you do not want to encourage me because I don't matter...even if logically speaking there isn't a single successful Transylvanian modern writer( no matter the genre) so "black" voices are being heard much more than mine...

However because some American, English,Canadian and Australian "white males" are popular, white diversity isn't needed anymore...I'm just another white guy, what interesting thing do I have to say ?
