Radiohead and Kanye West

or, you know, maybe you don't get him because you're a fucking suburban white kid. kanye doesn't not make music for white kids, but he definitely does not make music for sheltered people who lived all their life in one suburb. his fans tend to be more interesting and contradictory than that kind of background whether in the fact they moved around or aren't super fucking privileged or ARE privileged in one way but not another. kanye is not interested in "authenticity"- which is what is idealized by the average suburban white kid, or urban black kid for that matter. kanye opposes essentialism. your stereotyping of yourself as a "suburban white kid" (which you cannot now blame me for picking up on) shows just how unimaginative you are in how you categorize the world including even yourself.

this thread is disgusting in general. radiohead really have the worst fans of any artist out there. it's unfortunate for the band that their fans are so laughably ignorant it ends up reflecting poorly on their art. radiohead don't necessarily have much knowledge of post 1993 mainstream hip hop (although 1988-1992 era pe and atcq strongly influenced kid a, according to ed's diary) and thom, like many artists, accidentally got caught in a beef with kanye (for which thom is at least equally to blame, since both he and ye have people problems) but you won't find members of radiohead agreeing with the kind of bullshit people here are saying, refusing to listen to a hip hop artist because... he uses... samples! or saying someone sucks while admitting they are... one of the ten best producers ever! or saying kanye sucks because "i can't relate at all" (implication: nobody can) but who is "i"... oh, a "suburban white kid" (self described, so let's assume this is their main proud identity- well, why would you expect "urban" music to make sense to you then? and blame it for not?).

i mean the thread is a fucking joke.
