Rambling about memory ranks

Vaguely related, but I upgraded my laptop yesterday from 4GB single-rank to 8GB dual-rank, partly encouraged by the lure of potentially better performance. I didn't do any serious real-world testing, but I did try SiSoft Sandra's synthetic tests, and found a marginal increase in throughput (11.9GB/s to 12.7GB/s) and a small increase in latency (26ns to 28ns). Civ 5 running at my display's native res of 1080p on the iGPU did appear to show a minor fps increase, with my test scenario bottoming out at 22fps rather than the 20fps of before, and Lightroom, which appears to be heavily bound by memory bandwidth in processing and export operations (apparently, moreso than by CPU clock or core count) completed its export test about 10% quicker than usual. How much of that is due to the extra bandwidth or the extra memory though, I'm not sure.
