Ran first 5k today after taking up running this summer! Advice moving forward?

I guess it's not essential for running. But it's essential if you want to grow old with minimal injuries. I have a slight tendon problem in one knee and it's always there. I can only mitigate further injury so I wouldn't like to think what it's like when I'm elderly and unhealthy.

I've had some knee pain here and there that usually resolves itself

Get ontop of that straight away. Try to pinpoint where it is: meniscus, knee cap, ACL, MCL etc. then do appropriate warm ups. Or incorporate the knees/hips into your stretches.

I had the same mentality with my knees after years of lifting. Oh it's just slightly sore from working out. It's not until you have a break and you lose a bit of strength that you realise your health was masking an injury.
