Random Interesting Statline. 28/2/16, GSW @ OKC; Draymond Green Finishes The Game With 0/14/14.

Yeah to me the big difference to me is one guy had to dictate the terms of everything while the other in many ways allowed others to dictate terms.

a) Rondo needed the ball in his hands to have an impact. He had to dictate terms of everything basically. Rondo played good defense at his peak and had tons of assists; but in many ways the game always came down to him. What he would do with the ball, how long he wanted to hold it, where he felt like dribbling and driving etc.

b) Draymond is the ultimate self sacrificing player. Plays small ball 5 banging with bigger bodies. The QB of the defense. Covers tons of ground as a free safety in that defense with loads of responsibility. Rarely tries isolating or looking for his own shots. Used a ton as a screen setter(and he definitely sets physical screens).

Most of what I described above plays a primary role in allowing others to make plays and look good. Playing small ball 5 allows for tons of mismatches offensively. Doing all he does on defense allows them to play weaker defenders or others to have less burden and focus more on offense. Offensively his game like Rondo is passing but the focus is the off ball action not him dictating his own terms. He just makes the right reads and accurate passes but for that off ball action to work or for the cutters to get layups it relied on him doing this well.
