Rant I guess

okay gonna preface this by saying that I’m going to apply to medical school next year, so I sorta understand where you’re coming from. It’s fucking absurd that mental illness among med students is not taken seriously (or even frowned upon) by med schools, especially since you guys are literally training hard to take care of others. Like shit, even for me I have to put on a huge ass positivity facade to make sure my mentors and peers didn’t know how I am truly feeling inside.

You’re realllllllly fucking smart if you’re a med student, and I definitely believe that you must give yourself more credit for all the hard work and effort you have been putting in. Imposter syndrome is horrible, I’ve been facing it myself lately, but please note that you’re trying your best, and worst case maybe take a gap year or two in between med school or before residency before you seriously burn out. I know someone who is taking a gap year in between M3 and M4 for their mental health and in the meantime they’re working at a startup. Another person is taking a gap year before residency, and they’re just chilling and doing an externship.

You’re doing honorable work, and you should be insanely proud of yourself :) If you need a friend, I’m a lonely premed who is about to start studying for the MCAT, and I’d love to hear your jokes
