[rant] I invited you, not your kid.

Yes yes YES!!!! Just had guests over for dinner this past weekend and while they hung out and relaxed, I was utilized as a free babysitter while I was trying to serve food and drinks and even when it was time to clean up. This couple sat outside and let their kids run all around inside my house unattended, they wouldn't stop nagging me to play with our pet cats (who were hiding) and then kept insisting that I FIND our pets so they could play with them. I told them no repeatedly and they then set out to run around our upstairs and look for the cats, despite my telling them "no." Where were the parents? Not concerned in the least that their kids were nagging, harassing, and running around underfoot being unruly and demanding. I finally got to sit down and don't you know it, the younger brat sits down next to her mom and asks her to tell me to show them the cats. Her mom looked at me like she was waiting to see my reaction, and I just said "I told you already no." Then I got. A shitty look from the parents like I was the one who was rude, and then a comment from the Dad about how I "probably couldn't wait for them to leave." Yep. Got that right. And it's a shame I can't even check my phone without your ugly kid shoving her face in front of it and demanding that she have access to it. You would think the ignorant parents would tell their hell spawn to respect boundaries and to knock it off, respect the adult, but you would be wrong. They just sit back and refuse to intervene, maybe every hour impotently whimpering some halfhearted decree and then letting the kid shit all over that too. This is why I don't entertain people with kids, and try to avoid attending small get togethers at their houses. They just act like anyone else in the vicinity should take over parenting for them so they can relax and ignore their bratty little shits.

Who the hell thinks it's okay to allow their kids to run around someone's home and "search" through every room unsupervised??? It's pathetic that I had to make up excuses to tell them as to why it wasn't a good idea. No should be no. Shame on these people. Clueless bastards.
