"The rape rate of the United States is four times higher than that of Pakistan" <- complete bullshit-Tumblr user compares US women's "suffering" with Pakistani women and claims concern for woman in Islamic cultures is thinly veiled racism.

This is a symptom of two things. 1: Ignorance about the Muslim world as a whole. 2: People not saying what they mean. Not being exact in there statements.

1 Most westerners don't know anything about Lebanon, Indonesia, Turkey and other moderate Muslim countries, or know how to correlate urban and rural differences in a society so foreign to themselves. For some all they see is Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria(after all hell broke loose) Iran at its worst, Iraq(after all hell broke loose) etc...... This is not racist journalism but in stead just proof of the old adage "no news is good news". The comments are understandable albeit ignorant, as is your defensiveness(not the SJW's)

2 I hold the belief that Conservative Islam that holds a literal understanding of the Koran and emphasizes certain Portions or different collections hadiths is harmful and inevitably leads to the subjugation of women among other things. When people criticize "Islam" that is what is meant. This is unfair because the same thing can be said of Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Shinto, Daoism, Confucian ethics, Buddhism, traditional beliefs from all over the developed developing and undeveloped world. Please remember that most of the time the target of the criticism isn't the religion in all of its forms. The target is the form presenting the problem and the societies that Legislate and discriminate based on that form of the religion.

It is hard to quantify any statement of criticism towards one particular portion of a religion every time you bring it up, that is why the statement fundamentalist Islam is used so frequently and I support its use in situations like this.

The generalizations about feminism follow a similar vein of reasoning. There are people who think that anyone who calls themselves a feminist believes the same crap often found on Tumblr. This totally ignores the views of those who want an equitable society(don't see why that needs a gender neutral title though). People who generalize are sometimes being ignorant to the different groups, but most of the time they know the difference and are really talking about the feminism you hear about the most, and that is what I call batshit crazy. Maybe we should all start to qualify our statements with extreme feminism as well.

Why do people insist that Islam is more adverse toward women's rights especially when it comes to rape? The problem is this. There are large swaths of people in Muslim countries where rape is viewed as the woman's fault. Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, These are just the countries where marital rape is legal, or rape is nearly impossible to prove, or women are outright prosecuted for being victims, this does not include places where societal norms and prejudices cause extra judicial punishment or turn women away from treatment.(in turkey 33% of police think some women deserve rape) There is more but I don't have time to go imp it. All this being said the claim that Islam is a religion of rape is horse shit, but so is the claim that the Muslim world at large is comparable with the western world in its dealing with rape.

Why is Islam criticized so much? Why not Christianity? (Christianity is bashed constantly in the west just for different issues) There are Christian fundamentalists, but they make up a small portion of the population, have little popular support and almost never stone rape victims to death(or like never since modern times) there are(excepting the Vatican) no Christan theocracies, in fact most have clear delineation between church and state(Iran is the Muslim worlds only true theocracy, however Sharia is the official basis for state laws in the following countries: Afghanistan, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen ). The debate in the west is over Christmas trees the debate in in Islamic ones is about how to or whether or not to implement sharia law a clear break from that separation to enshrine religion in law. Side note Sharia is not always as extreme as that sounds and yes I know about the state secularization in Syria, Turkey, and other countries, but the legacy of that is waining and even those countries are becoming more Islamic, so the debate now is over things like Sharia even in those countries. You know if ISIS isn't gutting them. So from the prevalence of these phenomenon we can see that the hold of Muslim fundamentalism is broader and more institutionalized. The problem of Extremism in Islam has lead to the deaths of countless people in recent times. Needless to say this is why Islam is criticized, and the defense of The Islamic world as somehow better at "social justice" by social justice warriors us laughable.

Islam is not monolith, nor is the Christianity, nor are men, nor are women, nor are POC, nor are whites, nor are feminists, nor are MRAs(in fact there are people who call themselves feminists that share all opinions in common with MRAs aside from a naming convention and vice versa), but if these dumbasses are going to draw prejudiced lines, group large swaths of people together and tell out and out lies you should expect a impassioned response.

Sorry for the length of that rant. Sorry if there are errors, but I wasted all Internet time for today writing it and have no time to proof read. Sorry if I came across angrier than I was. Sorry if I missed anything.
