I Was Raped...Does Anyone Care?

I'm having a very hard time believing this guy for several reasons -- not the story of what happened with the woman so much (though I have my doubts there as well), but more the circumstances around it. First, you do not call military housing "dorms", as he did. They're called officers quarters. For the enlisted, they're called bachelor enlisted quarters. No one, and I mean no one, would call military housing a dorm back in his time. He said this happened 25 years ago, and that would make it 1990. His statement: "back then PC's were really expensive and not something I could afford..." Computers were not prohibitively expensive then. Hell, I bought one for $400 in 1990, and I wasn't an officer in the military. I'd literally just gotten out of the military to attend college. I didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of, but I could afford a basic desktop. He talked about tape recorders being too large and expensive back then. Really... really? You could by a hand-held Radio Shack tape recorder that uses a micro-cassette tape for next to nothing. Give me break. He basically is calling himself a fuck up in the military who was trying to get his career on path, but if he was attempting to make the rank of captain, then he'd been in more than one enlistment. So that tells me two things. You're not fucking around when you're trying to achieve rank. And, a single officer with the rank of 1st Lieutenant, living in military housing, isn't going to be struggling to purchase alcohol. That's something even a private could do. His statement: "We couldn't afford to drink at a bar more than once a week, but we could get hammered every night out of loose change, on the good imported stuff that cost a fortune in civilian markets." I was in the military for 8 years. Typically, you drank on base. It was rare, especially if you had duty the next day to leave base to go drinking. But you could certainly afford to drink off base plenty -- even as an enlisted man. Anyone who's served in the military will tell you that. Things just don't add up with this story, though I do think he's a really creative writer.
