THE SIEGE OF HARRENHAL

Family, Duty, Honour

The men of Riverrun went to the parlay with the vigilant defenders of Harrenhal. Ser Brynden Tully, the heir to Riverrun spoke to the captain atop the walls. Ser Beric of Twilight Hill captained the men atop the Western gate. As the sun scraped against its highest point in the sky he spotted the party holding the banners of each house which had joined the mighty Riverlander host. His response to the parlaying. There were 8,000 men assembled before Beric of Twilight Hill, and they demanded he immediately open the gates to their host. They had another 10,000 men opposite them. This was only a fraction of their strength. Ser Beric would be a fool to refuse. Open the gates and they would spare him. Open the gates and he would see his wife and his small son once again. Ser Beric’s responded to Brynden Tully’s demands immediately.

He simply grinned at him.

He turned to his men and barked “loose.”

Brynden was hit immediately with an arrow, along with Kenric Frey and many of the other Lords in front. Men at arms rushed to shield their liege Lord and the wounded lords managed to be pulled away. The horns were sounded next.

The battle begun.

The men at the Western gate charged forward with siege engines prepared and ladders. Ser Beric commanded his men to fire at Will. The battle was bloody. The Riverlanders smashed themselves upon the western gate, yet the defenders would not budge. The trebuchets assembled threw rocks at the walls of harrenhal to punch a hole in them, and slowly they caused more and more damage to the walls. More and more RIverlanders threw themselves against the walls but it was for naught. The defenders were stoic, they had been blessed by the warrior. The walls themselves appeared blessed by the smith for they would not fall. A lucky shot from a defending catapult knocked out a Riverlander trebuchet and the morale of the attackers at the west gate began to drop. Yet they pushed on and on until they could not.

The corpses surrounded the western gate. hundred were dead and maybe thousands wounded. The west gate would not fall. The Riverlanders pulled their remaining forces back to avoid being wiped out.

Ser Beric cackled madly as he saw the force beginning to pull back. Their defence was holding. They could triumph.

But his euphoria was cut off by frantic shouts from a lieutenant.

The eastern gate had been completely overrun, the Riverlander battering rams making short work of the gates. The men defending had been surged over by the gargantuan force. The survivours threw down their weapons and surrendered. In a rage, Ser Beric commanded his own men rush to meet them, and he and his adrenaline filled comrades charged down from atop the gates to meet them.

It was over before it began for Ser Beric of Twilight Hill. A rouge axe caught him in the neck and his ugly head fell from his body.

Harrenhal belonged to the The Loyalists.
