I have the rarest type of synesthesia called lexical gustatory, that means I taste words

I think I have it, too! Mine is mainly when I hear words spoken formally, to a group. I remember asking my mom and a few classmates about it in first grade, then never mentioning it again, based on their reactions.

I also seem to have another type, where I feel pain in my lower legs and feet whenever someone describes a bad injury or medical procedure.

For me, "group" tastes like kraut, which seems random, but "dictation" has a paper-y taste, which makes sense. "Reading" tastes like Wintergreen candy + Crest toothpaste (nonsensical?) I don't find that all words have a flavor, but only certain ones. It also seems as though I can "tune into it" or "tune it out" pretty easily most of the time. "Tune" btw, is the bitter peel of a lime.

Are you able to "tune in" selectively as well?

Selectively: tastes buttery-slick, cold, pineapple-mint.
