I am well aware of differences in culture. My comment wasn't towards the whole defenseless MC trope in particular, but rather a gripe towards the general attitude I sometimes see of western media being more "woke" and "progressive", as well as people justifying problematic tropes in Japanese media because "Japanese society is just Like That" even though these types of issues are relevant everywhere in the world. Again, I'm not accusing you specifically of defining an entire culture based on games, but is more of a quip to people who are quick to demonize the culture context of a media they consume, even though all cultural contexts have faults.
