Why Reading A Book A Day Is A Very Bad Idea by Anahita Zev

I completely agree with the quote about working yourself into the ground to become a well rounded individual. If you're mostly criticizing the idea that everyone SHOULD be reading a book everyday, then I'm on your side. The glorification of doing the most in every aspect of your life at the cost of your rest and mental health, is kind of toxic. I just don't think there's a "correct" way to consume books, when not everyone's goal with reading is the same.

That wasn't quite the point I was making. It was more the idea that people's lives are now so dominated by work and 'maximising productivity' that this sort of thing's allowing us to be worked harder and harder whilst accepting less and less time for ourselves. People spend most of their day at work then have to squeeze everything else they want to do into an ever-shrinking window and this sort of thing exploits and normalises that.
