Reading with ADHD

This is so helpful… I also have adhd and I’m dyslexic. Apart from reading books like the hungry caterpillar or monkey puzzle to my children - which get embarrassing at times when I lose my place. I haven’t made any attempt and actively avoided to read anything in decades and usually opt for watching the tv show or movie instead.

However recently my cousin has had the first novel she ever wrote published and it’s doing really well, positive reviews coming from everywhere and it’s ranking in the one hundreds on Amazon (uk). I’ve bought the book and I’ve read the first few pages and in my opinion it’s really good, i want to read more but I can’t I find myself distracted by the slightest thing or my mental to do list pipes up and the book is put down and I’m away doing something else. I feel awful about it, she knows I’m dyslexic but not to what degree, she doesn’t know how long it takes to write or read things, she keeps asking me if I’ve read it and what I think and I just keep making up excuses about why i haven’t read it which I know sounds like bullshit. Which I also have to say to friends and colleagues that I’ve told about my cousins book and suggested they read it.

The tips and comments above that I’ve read are really helpful and Reading them has made me feel better and less alone with my struggles.
