The Real Reason Tier Sets Were Removed

Yup. There's actually more cosmetic sets in Bfa than any xpac previously, not including the promotional ones posted. The devs have said for years now that there will be more sets in game and part of the reason they can do that is they're no longer making a class specific set every tier. But that is not the reason why there's no more tier sets. As Ion addressed yet again this past weekend the devs just don't like the tier set system of old. They don't like how players are permanently locked in those 4 pieces for the whole tier where nothing will ever replace them. I get and agree with the logic behind that and I've been chasing down tier sets since Wrath. But still...

I think what players miss most about tier sets it the actual cosmetics, not so much the bonuses which we still sorta have in the way of Azerite gear. This I don't have any excuse for, but the solution seems fairly obvious and simple.

They should make class sets dripping with theme, lore and fantasy like the MoP Challenge Mode sets were. Put in a quest line akin to the legendary artifacts, or some other way to collect all the pieces through not impossible means like dungeons or LFR or whatever, but at the end of it you have the glorious class set that shouts, IM A WARLOCK/ROGUE/MAGE/PALADIN, etc...
