Do you really think that American public schools are following/enforcing the "dress code"?

I go to a high school in Wake County, NC. I lately noticed the "dress code policy" rolling on the announcement screens in my school. I look around and guess what, no one is following the dress code. Aren't we "breaking" the school law by not following the dress code?

The biggest things that bugs me is that none of the school staff is enforcing it or even trying to enforce it. What is the purpose of making the policy appear on the announcements and not enforcement it. Even worse, some of the teachers themselves are going against the policy? What the heck?

I don't know about other schools or states in the US, but I'm pretty sure that the same thing is going. Please post your school experiences and what the dress code policy is? I really want to learn about other states and counties.

You might now be wondering "What in the world is the dress code policy of your school?" So, I have posted it below.

Students at the School will not be permitted to wear:

Exposed undergarments

 Sagging pants

 Excessively short or tight garments

 Bare midriff shirts

Strapless or backless shirts, spaghetti straps, halters

Attire with messages or illustrations that are lewd, indecent, or vulgar or that advertise any product or service not permitted by law to minors

 Head covering of any kind

 See-through clothing

Attire that exposes cleavage

Any adornment such as chains or spikes that reasonably could be perceived as or used as a weapon

Any symbols, styles or attire frequently associated with intimidation, violence or violent groups about which students at a particular school have been notified.

Students who violate the dress code will be required to change their clothing or to remain in ALC. Parents will be notified in writing of dress code violations and a copy will be retained in the student’s discipline file.
