Really want some long term internet friends but things always seem so hopeless

things always seem to fizzle out, they just disappear, or turn out to be an asshole

The cost of doing business, it's been like that since the 90s.

I don't know how much luck you're going to have jumping straight into deep conversations with randos without at least some small talk. You're going to need a measure of rapport otherwise the easier choice is to fizzle out, ghost, or be an asshole since the other side is essentially an NPC with little human value. Just the way people are. I've only had a handful of internet friendships that lasted multiple years and there was a fair amount of small talk before any deep conversations came up.

My opinion anyway, for what it's worth.
