Realtors and contractors of reddit, what are your creepiest experiences in the houses you’ve worked with? [Serious]

Okay insert typical “not a contractor” but I have an interesting story on this topic.

Earlier this year I was in Ireland for a funeral. I was staying in (city redacted to protect friend’s privacy) afterwards with some friends and we go out for drinks one night. After we get a nice buzz going and bars close I’m walking back to the apartment I’m staying at with one of the roommates when suddenly he makes a detour and says he wants to show me something.

He takes me to this super old house that his company was contracted to work on. We go down the basement where he shows me these 500+ year old tunnels, I think from medieval times, that were built for the British resistance back when the counties were still independent and in war. The tunnels has been filled in by the British eventually but there was a few small entrances in that house, original brickwork and everything. It was badass to see.

This is where things get weird. Under the influence of alcohol things start getting a little heavy and we’re making out down there. Suddenly we can both clearly hear heavy footsteps coming down the stairs, one by one. We stop and listen, i’m afraid it’s the garde (Irish police) but he says it’s nothing even though he looks nervous. We resume kissing when the footsteps stop. Not even a minute later I open my eyes and see what looks like a pale face directly behind us staring at me.

This makes me jump back, and though i’m spooked I think my eyes are playing tricks on me. My friend is acting heavily nervous at this point and ushers us out of the house quickly. On the way back he’s acting very weird and I finally get him to tell me why. Turns out weird shit had been happening ever since he started working there. Constant footsteps and whispers. Tools moving on their own. Feeling of being watched.

But the most terrifying part was he said multiple times he had seen ghostly figures hanging off nooses in the house, different people, all down in that basement. And ever since he saw that he had been having tons of nightmares of these same people hanging, begging for help. He was very clearly shaken up taking about it and that was the most I could get him to tell me, though I would bet there’s more.

So thank god we didn’t see that down there that night. I was I had gotten a head ups about the haunted part, but 10/10 would do again for the tunnels.
