Recently fell into Camp Waters. Hard.

Here's how I feel about the whole Gilmour vs. Waters thing. It's all silly bullshit. Speaking about Pink Floyd, people here have already said it best: Pink Floyd was greater than the sum of their parts. Each member is integral to the band and to what they created. Regardless of all the shit about Rick being fired from The Wall sessions and "re-hired" as a touring member but not a member of Pink Floyd. Same with Nick on those subsequent albums. Fuck all that. That's just some stupid business bullshit. They contributed to the music just like the "members" of the band. I absolutely love A Momentary Lapse of Reason and I really like The Division Bell and I love The Endless River. At the same time, that band was called Pink Floyd but it's a different incarnations of Pink Floyd. It is not the same Pink Floyd that released albums like Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon or Animals. I've never heard The Final Cut or any of Waters' solo work. At the same time, I've heard all of Gilmour's solo work and enjoy it immensely. I never listened to The Final Cut because I always looked at it as a Waters album more than Pink Floyd. That very well seems to be what it is. I've never listened to Water's solo work because I never really thought of him as great on his own. It's almost like he needed the others in Pink Floyd to help him produce his best work. Looking at this now, that's not very fair. I constantly see people praising The Final Cut and his solo work and that's made me think, maybe he is great on his own just in a different way than he was great with Pink Floyd. With Pink Floyd the planets aligned in ways we've yet to see for anyone else and probably never will see again. Long live David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and of course Rick Wright. These men have created some of the most earth shattering, life changing, beautiful music that any human can ever be graced to hear. I feel sorry for the people who have never or will never listen to Pink Floyd and truly understand that that's what music is all about.
