I have HSV1 also, mouth and genital, never had an outbreak besides the first one. Aside from the obvious (I can’t really one night stand anymore and have to have a conversation each time), it hasn’t negatively affected my life at all.

If you had it on your mouth you can still spread it through shedding, even if you show no signs or never have an outbreak, as I do. I’m prettt sure the girl I got it from I got it in the same fashion that you gave it to this girl. You can take pills to reduce transmission rate, but it’s still possible to transmit even if you take the pills and have no outbreaks. If you’re with someone who doesn’t have it, it’s best to use the drugs and protection, and realize there’s still a chance even then.
