I recently started my path to being a Christian, however my friend is an Atheist (like I was) and has found out about my newfound faith.

There are thousands of christian thinkers who are your vast intellectual superior who are alive right now.

You don't understand my point and you are conflating arguments. I'm not arguing that there are no intelligent people who are atheists or who believe in other dieties/religions. I'm not arguing that since these brilliant thinkers were Christians, there is valid justification for one being a Christian today (an appeal to authority type argument)

What I gave was a defense against you claim of: If one is a Christian, then their intelligence is to be looked down upon.

This is a ridiculous viewpoint that is easy to refute. There are numerous Christians whose intelligence far exceeds your own, therefore merely being a Christian is not a sufficient reason for questioning one's intelligence.
