Recommendations and advice on water-related activities

Start with single kayaks for each of you, it's so much fun you can race and chill and paddle along side of each other in a calm way. They're so much easier to maneuver.

SUPs are great, but they are much tougher than kayaks. You need real balance and you need to be able to get up and down and change positions on a wobbly board. I, myself, am not gifted when it comes to balance so I'm generally just end up sitting on the sup anyway and it's uncomfortable to do so for any length of time - since they have no back support.

Especially you mentioning your squirmish when it comes to water, with an SUP you are definitely going to be more involved with the water. That lake water, while it won't harm you, is pretty gross. The barton springs water is lovely though.

Single kayaks are the chillest, easiest way to get an introduction to our waters. The water is calm and paddling is easy. If you wanna branch out after that, I say go for it.
