Recommendations for an American History Buff

Tell me more about Sarah Vowell, what do you mean by quirky takes?

That Under the Banner of Heaven is intriguing. I actually am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so I may take a peak at it but I tend to enjoy more mainstream books about the history than history on fringe sects, usually because they take a decidedly negative bent on the members of the main faith as a whole. It’s good though?

Loved reading Brigham Young Pioneer Prophet, it was a cool “warts and all” look at a polarizing figure and the audible performance was awesome. So the religious books you’ve mentioned sound awesome, I like understanding more about how faith, and the freedom associated with it, has played a formative role in most of our culture to the present day.
