I’ve seen plenty of puppies that fit this description on various adoption sites. Not sure abt in Iowa, but dogs in need are everywhere! Also how do you even know your dog would produce a Black and Tan?

I also get where you’re coming from. I once helped raise several Doxie babies with their parent (it was my parent’s decision to do so at the time), and while I personally wouldn’t choose to breed, it was an experience unlike any other. It was pretty extraordinary to see our dog turn into a mom and raise her babies—all of whom we kept! Our plan was also always to keep all the puppies, not to sell. So I do think it’s different to breed w the intent of keeping the babies, but what’s your plan for the other puppies? Do you just want 1? Would you sell the others? Do you have a plan if they don’t sell?

These are big questions to ask yourself. It would be very sad to bring 3-5 puppies into the world and only keep 1, or potentially having to give the others up to a shelter if they don’t sell (which happens). If you’re unsure of plan A, B, C etc…I’d highly recommend holding off and looking into puppy adoption or even buying a puppy from a reputable breeder if you’re dead set on this. No judgment—just consider very carefully.
