Reddit, do you have any stories about escaping from the cops?

When I was in high school the house next to my friend's (we'll call him Gato) house was foreclosed on. Naturally, we broke in and started utilizing it as our smoking spot. Gato decided to buy a cat for his girlfriend, a gift which her parents refused to let her keep. Since Gato's parents wouldn't let him keep the cat either, he started keeping it in our pot house. Of course, it wasn't long before the floors were covered with cat shit. One night, we were in the process of breaking down and rolling up the buddha when one of my other friends stepped on cat shit. He turned to me and asked me to step outside with him so he can wipe his shoe on the grass. We both went outside and a few seconds later we saw a patrol car approaching. Quickly, I pulled my phone out and shot a text message warning the rest of the guys inside. The cops stepped out of their car and proceeded to tell us that a neighbor had reported a group of kids breaking into the house behind us. My friend pulled a story out of his ass explaining that we were waiting for a friend to come out of the house next to foreclosed home (pointing at Gato's house). One cop stayed with while the other when around the house were you could clearly see that a light was on. Over the radio, the cop reported back that he had just found 3 guys in possession of marijuana inside the house. The cop in front of me responded back asking the other cop to ask the 3 guys if we were with them. Thankfully, they were smart enough to say no (knowing that they would need someone to bail them out). The cop returned our IDs and told us to go home. My three friends were in the local paper the next day.

TL;DR: I escaped break-in charges and possession charges because my friend stepped on cat shit.
