Reddit, have you ever been falsely accused of doing something wrong if so what is it?

Noise complaints:

Our downstairs neighbours wanted to get our flat so that they could sub-let it out to make more money, so they blamed us for loud music, babies crying (ironically they have two babies and one child who likes to play the keyboard and sing karaoke), and also for running around in our upstairs flat among other things, mostly lies/exagerations with us being able to prove it (although they're still spreading lies).

The thing is, they don't live in the flat, they use it as like an upstairs retreat for their children for their business downstairs. They have a home to go back to at the end of the day. They were secretly sub-letting it to one of their elderly parent's under the guise that they were staying there while one of them recovered from a hip operation.

My parents are acting landlords of the building for my sister, so in one day they managed to email my parents about this made up noise we were making, and the husband verbally attacked my boyfriend as he was leaving through the shared access. They've rowed with most of the neighbours in the courtyard at the back where everyone parks. The thing is, it's a lovely area, most of the people have cats, one of the men walks his cat every day twice a day because his cat is scared of birds. We say hello to everyone... They're the only ones who have had a problem with any of the neighbours.

They've told everyone in our small community including my boyfriend's family that we were terrorising their elderly parents.

The thing is, we're total nerds and we don't have kids, or even friends with kids. I mean like, literally nerd, geeks, whatever. My boyfriend is quite big and muscley (strength trains at the gym) with long hair tied in a bun, so he perhaps doesn't look toooo nerdy. I however often walk past them with my My Neighbour Totoro backpack, 3DS or phone in hand playing something, always smile (although I do go past them at a run because I'm socially awkward) and they've seen me rescuing slugs and snails a lot because I'm like a freaking buddhist monk.

We don't have parties, we have our headphones in, we don't even have a TV, it's just a large monitor for our games consoles!! We have like maximum two friends over at a time! And the wildest we get is we play boardgames because we're NERDS. Yes, we might also be drinking and laughing, BUT GO HOME!

It's the centre of a busy town, drunk people are up to all sorts outside. There are often police cars during the night, burglaries. We've had to report people ripping a door off it's hinges and running off with it. We've seen a man running down the hill high on something screaming like his life was in danger at 3AM.

We've watched people be arrested, we've watched all kinds of drunken antics, our head out the windows a few stories up. And most of the people on the street are young people anyway. Many of us with our heads out the windows watching the hilarity below during the early hours.

It took us half a year to be able to sleep through the noise outside. WHAT THE HELL were they thinking putting two elderly people in the flat!?

I've never been so misjudged in my life. All they actually see my partner do is go to the gym and come back from work. When I'm not dressed up - so most of the time, people tell me I look like a primary school teacher and funnily enough, I'm so bloody nice that that was my dream job at one point, that or child psychiatry!!

We love animals, children, elderly people. We have a particular fondness of disabled animals. We're actually adorable.

My parents had to come in to speak to them to straighten it out, my sister wanted to chuck them out because they tried to bully us over all this but my parents insisted not to get personal - because they're nice people - who raised a nice person.

They lied over and over and over again about the noise, and every time my parents explained, like that there is a flat higher up and across the street that sometimes has loud parties and loud music, they said they spoke to them and they said it was us by name and pointed to our flat.

We don't know these people!! They don't know us!! Not only that, you can't just get to their flat, there's a whole buzzer system and, you can't even see the flat from their flat below.

They also said we were building furniture at 1am. To which my mum started to loose patience and said "do you think my daughter and son-in-law lie to me? They told me the very night it happened the way your husband spoke to them, it was at 9pm, and the legal obligation isn't until 11pm, AND they appologised and stopped."

They also tried to use a pregnant friend whose partner works for them as reasoning as to why we have children in the flat.

I don't think it climbed out of her vagina to cry and piss them off somehow!

The only thing they said that was true, is that we run around in our flat. We're covered by noises of occupation, just as the noise their children makes is.

If my boyfriend wants to chase me around in our own home while I scream and run away, or if we play fight, or if we play tag/it or don't step on the lava - we can and we will.
