Reddit! I need your help!

I'll get hate mail for this, but all Chiropractors are a scam. There is very little medical evidence to suggest that subluxation is in any way beneficial. Ever notice that before the chiro even looks at you, they are scheduling 3 appointments a week for the next few months until your insurance is maxed for the year? Total ripoff. I've heard the same about laser surgery, but can't really confirm.
That said, it sounds like she has a serious problem with a pinched nerve. As another person commented, go see a medical doctor, get an MRI. Most of the time they will show nerve impingement caused by either a burst disc, a bone spur or improper spinal alignment. That's step 1. Step 2 is figure out what to do about it. Physical therapy is the most common. For lumber(lower back), I prefer the elliptical workout. Thoracic (mid-back) I use a magnecisor that is similar to bike pedals except you pedal with your arms. Not the small crappy ones either. One mounted to a wall so you can maintain proper posture while sitting or standing. For cervical (upper back), I will use a small workout ball that is lowly inflated and can be put behind the head and you push your head back using the ball as resistance. There are also tons of exercises to be found on the web as well. Only caution is to pay attention to what the body is telling you as it's easy to compound the problem by putting too much weight, pushing too hard or like I mentioned above, doing an exercise that works one area but does not support the others. All this you want to keep track of the pain while doing it. If it hurts, stop. Drink lots of water and try to stretch before and after workout. If it can be afforded, a massage afterward is supremely beneficial as well. That's probably the only benefit to a chiropractor is the massage part imo. Anyway. Hope it helps. Good luck to your gf.
