Reddit: Police shouldn't arrest suspected rapists... if they have a job interview.

I'm just going to say something that has been on my mind as recently in a community that I'm part of, there were accusations of someone as being a rapist. He was named and shamed because an organisation (not the police) had an investigation into it and banned him which lead to other places banning him.

I found this all out on facebook and what followed was something pretty uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. A lot of details were missing, as in I don't know how many women accused this man but there was a lot of back and forth between "innocent until proven guilty" with calls for due process while others argued that the police and law are useless when it comes to rape that the best thing to do is name and shame people, blacklist them from the community.

It all made me very uncomfortable as to a certain point, we should look out for each other and police ourselves as best we can but... it turned into a witch hunt and while I obviously feel sorry for the victims, it doesn't feel right to join the mob without fully understanding what happened.

Sorry if this is unrelated but it's kind of the only place where I have some anonymity and won't risk alienating myself by saying something that will get misconstrued.
