Reddit, what does our culture over-value?

I have seen an openly racist bigot spew BS directly at me, on multiple occasions. I am dark haired and ambiguously brown, so I have been told that we don't wear headscarves in this country (I had a shawl over my head because I was caught in the rain), had a guy in car tell me to go back to Mexico, had a different guy in a car call me a dog-eating samoan bitch, had nazi bikers attempt to intimidate my husband and I, and also had a neonazi call my husband a race traitor. As a kid a white man followed my mom and yelled at her for being prejudiced against white people because she married a black man. This is just a sampling. I haven't even gotten into racism I've experienced while dating, or in-store profiling situations, or the fact that I almost got the cops called on me the other day while doing some yard work.
